Salt 2010
Exploring Postcolonial Missiology
in Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Edinburgh 1910 Ecumenical Meeting
October 28-29, 2010
Rationale: Conferences around the world recognizing Edinburgh 1910 are acknowledging the significance of postcolonial and mission, but none are exclusively focusing on this relationship. SALT 2010 recognizes this important anniversary celebration by addressing this gap.
We invite you to participate in this pre-AAR conference that will meet at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta. We have developed a quality program that will include the following presentations:
Maria Erling (USA-Lutheran) – Professor of Modern Church History and Global Mission at Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg: Reluctant Insiders: Anglican and Lutheran participation at Edinburgh 1910
Rowan Strong (Australia-Anglican) – Associate Professor of Church History at Murdoch University, 2007 author of Anglicanism and The British Empire: Mission and Empire: The Origins and Continuities of Anglican Missionary Understanding
Jørgen Skov Sørensen (Denmark-Lutheran) – General Secretary of Council on International Relations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark: From the Authority of Edinburgh 1910 to the Authenticity of the Individual 2010
Jayakiran Sebastian (USA-Church of South India) – H. George Anderson Professor of Mission and Cultures at Philadelphia Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia: “…not hurrying on to a receding future, nor hankering after an imagined past: Edinburgh 1910, Postcolonial Missiology, and our Mission to God
Papers pending peer review are expected to be published in “Mission Studies,” a peer reviewed journal published by Brill, within 1-2 years of the conference.
